What personal data we collect

  • Contact and delivery details that you give us at checkout, such as your name, email address, phone number if provided, and delivery address.
  • Order data, such as the books you buy, order date, order value and order number.
  • Customer service messages, if you contact us.
  • Cookies and local storage used to keep your shopping cart working and to remember your cookie choice.
  • Website analytics and advertising measurement data, only if we have enabled Google Analytics 4 and Google Ads conversion tracking. See the section on cookies below.

We do not receive or store your payment card details. Stripe processes them.

  • To take, print and deliver your order (including payment, printing, dispatch and customer service). Our legal basis is performance of a contract with you.
  • To keep accounting and tax records as the law requires. Our legal basis is legal obligation.
  • To keep the website secure and working. Our legal basis is our legitimate interests in running a secure store.
  • To measure our advertising and understand site use, only where enabled. Our legal basis is your consent where the law requires it, and otherwise our legitimate interests.

Cookies, local storage, analytics and advertising

We use cookies and local storage to keep your shopping cart working. These are necessary for the site to work.

Google Analytics 4 and Google Ads conversion tracking are used only when we have enabled them. When enabled, they may set cookies and send information about how you use the site, and about your purchases, to Google. Visitors see a cookie choice before these tags are used. Google Consent Mode keeps all four consent signals denied until you choose Accept, and you can change your choice at any time with the “Cookie choices” link in the footer of every page. Your choice is stored in your browser.

Audiobook orders

For now, every audiobook is sold by Gumroad, which is the merchant of record and handles payment, receipt and sales tax under its own privacy policy. When our own checkout opens, buyers outside the EU will buy from DAHMANI LIMITED, which runs National Library Press, and Stripe will process their payment; EU purchases will stay with Gumroad. For audiobook orders handled by our own checkout we store your email address, your billing country and records of your downloads (which file, when, and how many times) for 1 year, so that we can deliver the download, count downloads, answer questions and handle refunds. We do not receive your payment card details.

Who we share your data with

We share your data only as needed to run the store:

  • Our UK print partner, which receives your name, delivery address, and phone number or email address for delivery, plus the books you ordered, to print and ship your order.
  • Stripe, which processes your payment at checkout under its own privacy terms.
  • Gumroad, which sells and processes audiobook purchases as merchant of record under its own privacy terms.
  • Carriers, which receive your name and delivery address to deliver your parcel.
  • Google, for Google Analytics 4 and Google Ads measurement, only with your cookie consent.
  • Cloudflare, which hosts our website and handles email routing for our support address.

We do not sell your personal data.

International transfers

Some of our partners may process your data outside the United Kingdom or the European Economic Area. Where they do, we rely on safeguards that UK data protection law allows. Where a provider is in a country covered by UK or EU adequacy regulations, we rely on those regulations. This includes the UK Extension to the EU-US Data Privacy Framework where the provider is certified. Otherwise we rely on standard contractual clauses or the UK International Data Transfer Addendum.

How long we keep your data

  • order and invoice records: 6 years, as UK tax law requires
  • customer support emails: 2 years after the last message
  • audiobook order records (email, billing country and download records): 1 year
  • analytics and advertising cookies: as set out in the cookie banner, and no longer than 13 months

We keep data for longer only where the law requires it.

Your rights

Under UK GDPR, you have the right to:

  • access the personal data we hold about you
  • have inaccurate data corrected (rectification)
  • have your data erased in some cases
  • restrict how we use your data in some cases
  • object to our use of your data in some cases
  • receive your data in a portable format in some cases

To use any of these rights, email support@nationallibrary.press. We may need to check your identity first.

Children

Our website is not directed at children under 16. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 16. Children’s books can be ordered by adults for children; the order and delivery details are then the adult’s. If you think a child has given us their data, contact us at support@nationallibrary.press and we will delete it.
